The combination of ice during winter and heavy rains this spring has been hard on several parks in southern Illinois reports Les Winkeler of The Southern. Winkeler writes that Ferne Clyffe State Park, the Tunnel Hill State Trail and the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge have been scarred by Mother Nature’s self-inflicted wounds this spring. MARION - A counterfeit mushroom! How could I have known? Last Thursday when a Galatia resident brought in what she thought was a giant morel mushroom, I thought it was a Godsend. I needed a picture for the Friday edition and I figured Heather Tennessean’s submission would be great. It was 10 inches tall! I thought it could be a record of some kind.
