Small game hunters will enjoy additional and earlier opportunities this season due to the continued success of the Colorado Division of Wildlife?s (DOW) Walk-In Access Program. The Walk-in Access Program gives small game hunters the opportunity to purchase a $20 permit that allows them to access 145,000 acres of private land.

| Vigilantes Targeting Bird Creek Bears? |

Three bears shot and left to rot near Bird Creek has some area residents and biologists wondering if vigilantes are targeting bears in a population that seems to be growing, according to the Anchorage Daily News : Area wildlife biologist Rick Sinnott with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game said the summer started with two bears being found dead and dumped off Konickson Road, off the Seward Highway. Just this weekend, the carcass of a shot-dead black bear was discovered on a beach near Bird Point. "These are ones that were found,'' he added. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) has confirmed that the cause of death of a deer in Cumberland County was Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease. Hemorrhagic Disease (HD) is a common viral infectious disease of white-tailed deer, and outbreaks occur annually in the Southeast. Since late July, VDGIF wildlife biologists and conservation police officers have investigated reports of suspected outbreaks from Allegheny, Shenandoah, Nelson, Essex, Bedford, Scott and Hanover Counties. | State Approves $400K for Wolf Control Education |

Legislators have provided $400,000 to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for educatating Alaskans about predator management in the state, a move decried by wolf management foes as propaganda, according to the Anchorage Daily News . State Fish and Game commissioner Denby Lloyd has indicated that the funds will be used for two publications that will help Alaskans understand the science behind predator management programs. | Officials Seeking Information About Deer Killing |

The Colorado Division of Wildlife is looking for information about a deer killed at the Rampart Shooting Range just west of Colorado Springs. The dead deer was discovered Thursday, August 23 by Forest Service employees and volunteers from Fort Carson who were doing a clean-up project at the range.

From an ADFG News Release: The fall portion of the drawing permit hunts for brown bear on the Kenai Peninsula has been closed by an Alaska Department of Fish and Game emergency order. Hunts DB301, DB303, DB305, DB307 and DB309 in GMUs 7 & 15 are closed effective September 15, 2007. The hunts were closed due to human caused mortality greater than management guidelines permit.
