| My first time cross-country skiing |
|
Today was an outdoor first for me - the first time that I ever tried cross country skiiing! Someone gave me some old skis and poles, and a friend of mine loaned me some boots to try it out. I have downhill skied before so this wasn't a total stretch for me, and it went pretty well. I went on some paths on our land that were snow covered, so I think if I'd get them more packed down it would work better. To me it felt like a workout effort (which I should do every day anyway), but rather than be on a treadmill or eliptical, I got to be outside in the woods! Now is working out my favorite thing to do? No. But since I should do it anyway, I think that from now on I'll try to throw this in to ...

| Iowa Deer - Day 3 - I Got A Buck |
|
The day started for Dana, Mike, Chris and I at a crisp 13 degrees Fahrenheit with 20+ MPH winds. For anyone that doesn?t know, this translates into ?COLD?. We headed over to the South field and set up for a drive. Chris and I both took up spots on the terraces to the North of [...]

| Planning the Women in the Outdoors Event |

From what I understand, the actual initial money will come from one of the local NWTF chapters, and then we'll pay them back after we receive the registration money from the participants. The next step is a fun one - selecting which ...

| Money Talks |
|
Unfortunately, Politicians make most (in my opinion) decisions based on either keeping their jobs or money. For once this may help the sportsmen, as long as we make a point to let our elected officials know about the facts revealed in a report released by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation . The CSF sent a copy of this full report to all Members of Congress but I think that if we each sent our Representatives a copy it would do more good. The full report can be downloaded here . Some highlights of the report are: America's 34 million hunters and anglers directly support 1.6 million jobs. They spend more than a billion dollars a year just in license, stamps, tags, and permit sales. T...

| Raw Apple Cake Recipe |
|
Ok, so this recipe has very little to do with hunting, unless you count hunting for apples, or it being a treat to take on a hunting trip, or…I don’t know how else. I do have a recipe section though, one that has been neglected quite a bit. And, this is one of [...]
