| We're Just Here to Give Birth To Hunters |
I'm vexed - again - grrrr!! Kevin at HuntingLife.com (a very nice site) posted an article by Randall L. Eaton, Ph.D. Advisor to Conservation Force that vexed me! (I'm vexed with Mr. Eaton by the way, not Kevin!) The article was going along just fine until he said, "The polarities of human life consist of women bringing life into the world and men taking life to support life." I stumbled in my response because I was typing very fast, like I do when I'm vexed. But as I tried to say there, the article would have been better if it had left out the aspect of "gender differences". It's not even relevant to the argument of why hunting is a good thing. Perhaps he could have accomodated the recent...

| Hunters Can Help Feed the Needy this Deer Hunting Season |
As the 2007-08 deer season opens, hunters are encouraged to provide food to needy families by participating in Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH), a program providing thousands of pounds of ground venison to area food banks. Food banks then donate the processed venison to help feed needy families. Since the program began in 1999, more [...]

| Experimental February Canada Goose Season to be Offered |
The Indiana DNR has passed a temporary rule establishing an experimental 2008 February Canada goose hunting season in selected areas in an attempt to control the population of breeding Canada geese in and around urban areas of the state. | ICE FISHING IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN |
ICE FISHING IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN? Depends: It's iffy, at best. George Langley at Eagle River Sports said, ''Not a chance. The warm spell reduced everything to skim ice.'' Minocqua guide Kurt Justice said, ''Looks as though we won't be getting safe ice this week. With small lakes skimming up in areas, we are very close, but we need daytime temps to stay below freezing for a couple of days with no wind.'' However, in Hayward, Pastika's Sports reported, ''By the end of week, there is a possibility. There's ice on the back of bays. It will be real close.'' If you're up north for deer or the holidays, there's a chance. Otherwise, I would call before driving up for first ice.

| What's a Personal Locator Beacon? |
I'm starting to plan for an elk hunt in Colorado next year. I looked into a Personal Locator Beacon in case of emergency. Here's a synopsis of what I found for those of you who may be planning a trip to the wild woods. What is a Personal Locator Beacon? Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are for personal use and are intended to indicate a person in distress who is away from normal emergency services, according to Wikipedia . PLBs vary in size from cigarette-packet to paperback book. They can be purchased from hiking supply stores, online, or rented from PLB Rentals (among others). The cost varies widely with varying levels of performance and options. A site with excellent FAQs about PLBs is ...

| Grizzly bear attacks prompt calls for lifting hunting ban |
BILLINGS, Mont. Nearly extinct last century, grizzly bears are back in a big way in the northern Rockies rising in numbers, pushing into new territories and mauling hunters who stumble across them in the wild. While state and federal officials laud the bear's comeback, others say it's time to lift the remaining protections that helped them recover. They point to recent grizzly encounters as evidence. "We've got grizzly bears eating people who come here to hunt," said Vic Workman, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks commissioner, who fended off a grizzly during a Nov. 25 hunting trip near W

| Seeing Blue |
Research has proven that deer can see color. The exact colors and the intensity is still being researched but the one color that the researchers are sure that deer can see is Blue. This is one color I wish that deer couldn't see because I'm a creature of habit and comfort, which means that I wear blue jeans quite a bit while hunting deer. I guess that will have to come to an end.
