Condo Deerstand
A friend of mine that i've hunted with for years now sent this to me via email and told me he had been working on a new deer stand since mid-june. Now what he told me was that he had found a place with so many deer signs that he didn't quite know where to put his stand so he thought up this convienent stand just to be on the safe side and be able to cover every possible route. What I couldn't figure out was why it took him so long to put up his stand until I recieved his email then everything became very clear to me. As you can see from the photo below he has all the comforts of home and then some. What else could you ask for in a deer stand other then to open the door and invite them to ...

The Art Of Sitting Still
Anyone who has bow hunted more than one day knows the importance of being able to sit still and quiet. Knowing that, and doing it, are two different things. I seldom hunt with another person, but in the past when my kids and grandkids were young, they would go out with me. Most adults can?t sit still, and even fewer children can do so. One of my grandchildren was fidgeting when I whispered to him to sit still. He whispered back that he was sitting still. Your idea and my idea of being motionless and quiet may not jibe. My buddy Dave Richey has mastered the art of silent sitting. He has taken more black bears than he has fingers and toes, and he has learned some of the tricks to sitting as...

Water Sports and Activities in Ireland
Ireland boasts a breathtaking 1,372 kilometers of coastline, which is more per capita than any other nation in Europe. Many people like to hire a car and drive along the coast, admiring the scenery; a rental car will give you access to the less traveled roads, making it easier to choose the most scenic routs. However, in addition to the beauties of the coastline, with such ready access to the ocean as well as a large number of lakes and rivers inland, it comes as no surprise to learn that water sports and other aquatic activities are a big part of life for Irish residents.

A Leap Day Update
Can't believe it's been over a month since I updated. I knew I was letting the blog slide, but the guilt stings a little more after seeing the numbers. At least I didn't let an entire month lapse (thanks to a quadrennial calendar quirk). As I said in a Twitter note, I've been super busy, mostly because I'm launching a couple of new courses and needing to make a lot of midstream adjustments. But I'm having fun with them, most of the time. The best experience has been a writing class pairing my students with some kids from an inner city high school to survey some residents of their neighborhood and prepare a report of their findings to a community service agency. Here is one team (some of m...
