Back to the 'Zoo
Speaking of things Kalamazoo, as I was yesterday, I'm leaving shortly for a wedding there. Perhaps I ought to swing by a few bits of "old" Kalamazoo while I still can. But thinking more about the "old days" in the 'Zoo, I recalled that a lot of things about them weren't so good. If much of the city, especially downtown, had more character, if it was grittier, quirkier, less homogenized, less managed, it had more troubles too. Two large malls had opened west of town in the late 60s-early 70s (one of which was the reason my family moved there: my father managed the Montgomery Ward store there.
