Youth deer hunts offer exciting opportunities for new hunters
Five state parks, two military reservations, two refuges and a nature preserve will provide high-quality deer hunting for 490 young hunters this fall, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The deadline to apply for the Special Youth Deer Hunts is Friday, Aug. 15.

First deer lottery now complete
The first lottery for Illinois firearm deer hunting permits is now complete and hunters should be able to check whether they received permits. Click here to check the status of your permit application. Permits were printed July 8, but will not be mailed for three weeks. That means you might not receive permits until July 29. That’s still in time to apply for the next lottery. But for peace of mind, get online and check. For those who weren’t successful (or worse yet who forgot to apply the first time), the second lottery deadline is Aug. 14. Click here to see a list of remaining counties available.
