Hefner Dam road re-opens The Lake Hefner Dam Road will re-open today to pedestrians and motorists after six months of construction to make repairs. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned at 9 a.m. on the east end of the dam road. A fishing lure worth $500,000? That was the buzz Thursday at the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club’s gathering at the Peoria Civic Center. On hand displaying five coveted Haskell minnows (pictured above) was Kerry Chatham of Guntersville, Ala. The showpiece of Chatham’s collection is a 10-inch copper minnow (pictured above in the middle) patented by Riley Haskell of Painesville, Ohio in 1859. Haskell’s minnow fetched $101,200 at auction in 2003. At the time that was the most ever paid for a lure, though Chatham subsequently paid more.
