Liberal waterfowl seasons likely
Despite a downturn in duck and goose counts this spring, Illinois waterfowlers should enjoy liberal hunting seasons again this fall. The Department of Natural Resources has submitted proposed seasons featuring 60 days for ducks and 85 days for Canada geese. Illinois submitted dates even though the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Servive has yet to determine whether hunters will be allowed liberal seasons. That decision is expected later this month based on a complicated matrix that accounts for waterfowl breeding numbers and counts of spring ponds. “The numbers are there and I think we’re in real good shape.
