| Good luck beating the cunning coyote |
Like their cousin the wolf, coyotes have long been maligned for preying on livestock and game animals. They have been poisoned, trapped and hunted in almost every way imaginable. Through it all, the coyote has actually prospered, spreading beyond its native Great Plains to populate the entire United States, much of Canada and most of Central America. And they are closer than you think. The ravine in Decatur’s Garman Park is just one of several local inner-city haunts that attract coyotes, which have increasingly moved into urban environments since undergoing a population explosion in the 1970s. ``They just hit an exponential increase and went from being scarce or rare in Illinois to...

| Lost and Found comes to a Happy Conclusion |
On the Sage Creek Forums, a number of hunters from Idaho are members. It stands to reason since the Forums are run by Scott Whitehurst of Athol, a small town in the Panhandle of Idaho. A llittle more than a week ago, there was a post that caught my attention: Mon Jun 23, 2008 First post [...]

For example, when I was in the girl scouts, when I was younger, we all went camping at this camp site out in the woods of New York.

| Hummingbirds, July 1 |
One of my daily chores is feeding my 2, 16 ounce, Hummingbird feeders. They get 1 cup of sugar for 16 ounces of water and are thriving on this mixture! Now, I probably have over 20 of the little critters swarming around at any time. ?The Boss?, the dominant male is still in charge and with all of the young males from this years hatch challenging him, he lets the females come and go as they please. He doesn?t even challenge me anymore and didn't show up for this photo op! Tuesday, I took my camera with me as I checked the feeders and snapped probably 20 shots and what follows are the best ones. "Final Approach" "Comin' In Hot" "Swarming" "Al...

| Perfectville Dog |
In Perfectville, I have a perfect dog. This dog wakes me every morning at 6 o'clock no matter if I want to get up or not. What a great alarm clock! After I stagger out of bed, she is eager to bring me pieces of my slippers and when I let her out of the house, she always brings me at least half a page of the shredded newspaper. And barking, that dog can bark! She likes to slip up behind you and bark as loud as she can, especially early in the morning as I move into the den with my first cup of coffee. She barks at all those invisible things inside and outside the house too. She likes to keep you alert. She guards the house too. We have not had an elephant or bear come in our yard since we ...
