State awards Wildlife Preservation grants
SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources today announced more than $181,000 in grants through the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund to support 42 projects intended to enhance wildlife conservation efforts in the state. “These projects – supported by contributions from thousands of Illinois citizens – are helping preserve the future of wildlife and habitat in the state,” said IDNR Acting Director Sam Flood.  “From rare plants in natural areas to grassland birds to aquatic life that thrives in wetlands, these projects and studies help us better protect and preserve natural Illinois.” The Wildlife Preservation fund is a...

As of today the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will sustain a $14 million blow to its budget. That’s the amount Gov. Rod Blagojevich sliced from DNR’s funding as part of larger cuts to the state’s 2009 spending plan. Blagojevich’s ally in Springfield, Senate President Emil Jones, wouldn’t go along with the House this month in trying to restore some of the money.
