Apprentice Hunter License Program expanded SPRINGFIELD - Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed legislation expanding eligibility in Illinois' Apprentice Hunter License Program to out-of-state hunters. The Illinois Apprentice Hunter License Program grants limited hunting privileges to residents - and now non-residents - interested in trying hunting before buying a regular Illinois hunting license.

Carp count down for Redneck event
BATH — Dozens of boats cruised up and down the Bath Chute of the Illinois River on Saturday with large nets hanging from their sides during the fourth annual Redneck Fishing Tournament. The event, which has drawn national attention, challenges boaters to see who can net the most Asian carp, a species that has invaded the area in recent years and is known for flying out of the water and hitting boaters. Ash borer found near Bloomington
SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Agriculture says it has identified two beetles collected in Bloomington as adult emerald ash borers, the pest blamed for the destruction of millions of North American trees. The beetles were trapped last week in an industrial area of Bloomington’s southwest side. This is the most southern sighting in Illinois of the highly destructive beetle. The metallic-green pest was spotted in Chicago for the first time last month. Emerald ash borers are highly destructive and tough to fight. They feed on ash trees, eventually killing them.
