has been good on the sandbar between Vermilion and Lorain, northwest of the Chagrin River in 60 to 65 feet of water, northwest of Edgewater State Park in 58 to 64 feet of water, north-northwest of Fairport Harbor in 60 to 70 feet of water, northwest and northeast of Ashtabula in 68 to 72 feet of water. Trollers are using crank baits or spoons and worm harnesses off jet divers, dipsy divers, planer boards and down riggers. The best action has been about 20 feet down and the best colors have been chartreuse, silver, orange, green and pink, and monkey puke. From Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks -- For most hunters, mid-summer is the time when thoughts turn to fall hunting seasons, which begins with dove season Sept. 1. For first-time hunters, preparation usually means taking a hunter education course prior to going afield. In most cases, anyone born on or after July 1, 1957, must successfully complete an approved course in hunter education before hunting in Kansas. Those hunting on their own land are exempt. Anyone 16 or older may purchase a one-time deferral of hunter education, called an "apprentice hunting license," for the same price as a regular hunting license. | Dog Deer Hunting Closures Added in Four Alabama Counties |

From Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources -- Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley announced today that the closures of areas to dog deer hunting in four counties, which were approved by the Conservation Advisory Board at its May 2008 meeting in Eufaula, will be implemented for the upcoming 2008-09 seasons. Lawley said there has been confusion about the closures after a committee formed to explore solutions to the dog deer hunting issues decided not to make any recommendations to the Commissioner for the 2008-09 seasons because of time constraints.
