This is a special posting for all the ladies in the Reno/Sparks and surrounding areas. All ladies 18 years and older can take advantage of a 2 Day Fly Fishing Class that is designed especially for us females. The class will review tackle, casting and on-the-water presentations for the first day. The second day will consist of actual fishing and putting your learned fishing skills to work. | Mercury Levels Rise in 6 Nevada Waters |

Be Aware Fish species from Six Northern Nevada waters have been identified to have potential higher levels of mercury and should be consumed on a limited basis. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't enjoy fishing at these Six Northern Nevada waters, it simply means to be smart. The following information was posted on the Nevada Department of Wildlife's website and states -- "The health advisories recommend no consumption of fish from Lahontan Reservoir and the Carson River from Dayton downstream to the reservoir; no consumption of white bass from Little and Big Washoe Lake ; no consumption of wipers and walleye and no more than one eight-ounce meal per week of any other fish from Rye Patch...

| 13th Annual Model Dairy Charity Fishing Derby Results |

2007 Model Dairy Charity Fishing Derby - Results The 13th Annual Model Dairy Charity Fishing Derby turned out to be a HUGE success this year at Pyramid Lake. The Derby took place on March 17 and 18 which turned out to be the warmest two days that Northern Nevada has seen this year. The sun was out, the wind stayed down and the temperatures soared in the 70's. The First place fish was a catch and release Winner which weighed in at 11.88 lbs while the second place fish wasn't too far behind ... weighing in at 11.1 lbs. A good amount of my time each summer as a Boy Scout was spent at a certain alpine lake in Northern Utah. When the other scouts and I were not rolling boulders into the lake or earning merit badges, we were fishing. Using good ole plastic worms and a spin cast setup, our Scoutmaster would yell ‘SHAMU’ each time he would hook into a fish and after reeling in he would hold up the 6 or 7 inch monster trout. Funny as it was back then, calling a fish Shamu never seemed more appropriate than it did on steelhead caught this past weekend on the South Fork of the Clearwater near Grangeville, Idaho. | Photo Contest Winners Announced |

Tattered Fly’s First Annual Fly Fishing Photography contest was closed to entries at midnight on February 28th. The contest turned out to be quite popular and the quality and number of entries continues to amaze me. I have already received offers from individuals and companies wishing to pitch in for the prize package on next year’s photo contest. I must say that I came away with a few pieces of inspiration and am amazed by how many fly fishers also engage in artistic endeavors. Modern science needs to do a study on the genetic linkage between the fly fishing gene and the artistic gene. I’m sure that it would be ground breaking stuff. But I digress… The winning ima...
