| 41-point Oklahoma buck |
While sitting at home I ran across this, a 41-point buck supposedly killed by a 9-year-old in Oklahoma. The wire around his antlers is the electric fence that was around his family’s black-eyed pea patch. Whether the story is true or not, it’s an awesome buck.

| Delayed Posts |
I just wanted to check in with everyone and apologize for the low number of posts lately. With the fall hunting season and fall walleye fishing I have not had much time to sit behind the computer....and neither should you...get out there and enjoy the fall!! Keep checking back as I'll be adding posts sporadically and I promise to get back into regular posting as soon as my freezer is full.

| Time in the timber with Little 10 |
Once again, the Illinois November weather is playing dirty tricks on the bowhunters. Hot, cold, wind from all directions, sun, clouds, and rain. And most of that all happened in one day! My “rut hunt” vacation has been pretty uneventful thus far. Temperatures in the 60s and 70s are a big change from last week when the mercury wasn’t getting above 50. Of course, that’s the week I was at work. Since I’ve been off, the deer probably can’t decide if it’s November or September. Neither can I, switching between a lightweight jacket, rain gear, and an insulated coat in the mornings. While I have seen deer every time on stand, the majority of my deer sigh...

| Fall firearms turkey harvest drops |
JEFFERSON CITY-Hunters checked 10,857 turkeys during Missouri?s 2007 fall firearms turkey season, the lowest number in more than 20 years. This was the third year that Missouri?s fall firearms turkey hunt spanned the entire month of October. The harvest fell 1,070 or 9 percent short of last year?s. Top harvest counties were Laclede with 252 turkeys [...]

Not only will you learn about new tips and tricks, but you'll also learn *extra* bonus tips to help you catch the next big bass... without spending hours and hours at the water hole! I have been bass fishing for over 20 years now, but it wasn't easy for me when I first started out... I mean, GOOD information on this topic is pretty hard to come by. Especially the kind of information I wanted to know more about. To be quite honest with you, I got tired of looking and searching all over the place, so I decided to create the definitive guide to becoming an incredible bass fish...

| Starting up a Women in the Outdoors Event |
I've mentioned the Women in the Outdoors program a few times ( here and here ). It really interests me, and I decided that I want to participate. But there were no events right in my area, so I took it a step further and told Karyl I'd like to help start one. If this is something you may be interested in too, and are wondering about it, here's how it's going! Karyl is the regional coordinator, and she had also gotten emails of interest from another woman in my area that also wanted to start an event. After a few scheduling emails back and forth, we met at a local restuarant. The first thing we had to determine was the location of the event. We brainstormed beforehand and at the meeting an...

| Forecast Your Duck Hunting Success |
Weather conditions have an enormous influence on duck hunting success. To make the most of their days afield, waterfowlers must understand weather patterns and how they affect bird behavior. Foul weather, for instance, is usually considered a duck hunter’s greatest blessing. But to be consistently successful, even under these favorable conditions, a hunter must know how [...]

| Gone Hunting |
This is a short notice to let my readers know that as from tomorrow I will not be writing on this blog. I am going on a weeklong wilderness hunt where there are no cell phone reception and Internet. We are miles away from any civilization there will be just nature, wildlife and us. I hope that by my return I will be able to report hunting success. One thing is for sure, however this hunt may turn out, I will have some stories to write about and pictures to show of a pristine natural setting. In the meantime you can go over to Outdoors with Othmar Vohringer and read the story of how I became a Bowhunter .

| For Great Tasting Deer |
Meat preparation begins BEFORE THE SHOT! Older deer (bucks in particular) usually have a stronger taste (gamy), and will usually be harder to tenderize. So if meat is what you are after, first and foremost, learn to identify and choose an animal between 1&3 years old. Does are usually the best choice. Try to shoot a calm animal. Animals that have been spooked or are running when shot tend to have a "gamy" taste when cooked. The shot...careful shot placement is ALWAYS important! Proper shot placement is not only an ETHICAL MUST...a quick kill also insures the best tasting venison! Broadside shots, through both lungs are best. This insures a quick, humane kill and destroys a minimal amount ...
