| Woman Hunter Shoots Albino Deer in MN |
I've been busy bow hunting and getting ready for gun hunting. I saw a niiiice buck by my gun hunting spot - can't wait! But I haven't seen any albino deer, unlike the woman in Minnesota who shot one last week. According to Fox News' November 5th, 2007 story online , Mary Roakoz shot and killed a rare albino deer as hunting season got kicked off in Minnesota. It's not legal where I live to kill a full albino deer. I'm on the fence on what I think about this. I don't blame her for doing it, but I don't think I could personally do it. I've read too many fiction stories where there's a mystical white animal that appears in the forest and has special powers!! It would be bad karma I think.

| Cold weather fishing tip |
Check the bellies of fish you bring up and if you find silt, that's an indication that the fish has been glued to the bottom. So take your time presenting the bait or lure, stay in one spot for a longer time and use presentations with smaller baits like drop shot or shaky heads. Find the deepest water close to shore and fish more vertically than horizontally.

| Good News for Bowhunters in the Midwest |
Several Midwestern towns are implementing bowhunting as a safe and effective way to control skyrocketing deer herds. On Oct. 3, the Granville, Ohio Village Council unanimously approved an ordinance to allow bowhunting in the community. As of Nov. 2, hunting will be permitted on private property with written permission. The chief of police, with approval of the village manager and following a review of the village council, will establish rules and regulations for the hunt. Anti?s resisted the new ordinance, instead suggesting deer birth control, which has been proven to be ineffective. In the Des Moines, Iowa suburb of Urbandale, bowhunting will now be permitted in four city parks to safel...

| Walleye Recipe - Crunchy Coated Walleye |
Found this interesting walleye recipe this morning - crunchy coated walleye . It was posted by Sharonrae at Flavors of Kentucky, and it reminds me that I always wanted to do a section on fish recipes, obviously most of them will be walleye recipes. I have so many of them, some from books, others from friends and just stuff I found on the internet. If you have fish recipes that you would like to post here, you can leave them as a comment for now and once I am ready to get all this organized properly, I will post your recipe and give you full credit (of course) including a proper link to your site.

| Fishing Females - Reader of the Month |
Dear OutdoorU, Once again I have out-fished the guys in the boat! While fishing in the Gulf off the shore of Florida I was able to bring over 20 fish into the boat (red snapper, mangrove snapper, striped bass, spotted bass and some other stuff.) The two men in the boat caught 6 fish total. One was a "lizard" fish and another a catfish, neither of which the Captain would allow in the boat. Tee Hee. I've attached a picture of the one of the only fish we kept (for shark bate) because the captain believed in catch and release. Next time I take a charter I'm going to make sure we have a "filet and release" cruise. Love your sight and hope to learn enough to keep out fishing all they guys in th...

| Timeless Bowhunting |
Once again I want to recommend a book for those of you that bowhunt or are thinking about bowhunting. Timeless Bowhunting by Roy S. Marlow has been one of the best books I've ever read concerning archery. It covers every detail of the mechanics of archery for both compound shooters and traditional shooters. The book is laid out with easy to understand chapters that are only a few pages per topic. I like books that I can pick up for just a few minutes when I get a chance, read a chapter and put it back down. The problem I had with this book is that I'd read a chapter and say to myself, oh what the heck, one more chapter and pretty soon the book was done. If you are at all interested in a d...

| Kudos for Illinois Dream Hunt |
When most of us were climbing up into our favorite treestand last weekend, there was a group of dedicated, unsung heroes who traveled to southern IL for a hunt of a different kind. It was the 5th annual “Illinois Dream Hunt” at the state-owned Sahara Woods State Park near Carrier Mills. Flash back almost six years ago during the Illinois Deer & Turkey Classic. The Illinois Bowhunters Society (IBS) was approached by Brigid O’Donoghue from United Special Sportsman’s Alliance who wanted to grant hunting and fishing wishes to kids with severe handicaps and terminal illnesses. She had formed USSA to fill the void when other organizations wouldn’t grant wishes ...
