| They Had Us Surrounded! |
|
It was a slow evening for the most part. We only counted 49 deer after noon yesterday. Unfortunately most of those were seen by the guides while waiting for the dynamic duo to come out of their stands. Mike did see quite a few deer including a probable shooter that went by through the brush about 55 yds away. Naturally he was much happier with this new stand site and couldn't wait to sit it today or move a little closer to the trail he'd seen the big one on. Then the morning came. The wind has come around 180 degrees and is just flat wrong for that spot. Rather than pushing his luck he's someplace else right now and not very happy about it. Wish I could Change it for him. He had a little doe under him this morning but let her walk. Richie had a small 5 point come in under him last night and saw some other deer out on the field edge quite a ways away. The buck came into a scrape near the stand and nearly lost his mind when he took a sniff. Richie said he bristled up and started looking around. If a deer can look worried I guess this one did. Richie is pretty sure it was something bigger than that 5 that must have made the scrape. He saw two medium bucks this morning and is hoping that they keep getting bigger with each sit in the stand. I hope he's right. Maybe tonight will be the night. The weather is pretty bad out there right now. Temp is about 45 and dropping and the wind is out of the north and northwest at 15 - 20 mph. Did I mention the drizzle that's blowing around in it? Small detail I know but it's sure to impact our brave heroes. I gotta get back to some other guidy stuff so... I'll see you back at the lodge.
